College Magazine Contents Page Annotation

Magazine contents page

This front cover is all most like the first magazine cover as it has a large, red masthead with an image on the front cover. This image also hides some of the masthead but it is still readable and so this does not matter as again the masthead is so simple that even covering it partially does not affect it.

The masthead is red and for the same reason that the first magazine used, the colour red is the first colour that the eye can see, so this is why the colour red is more visible than other colours. The background of this cover is of a typical college campus which shows that the background relates to the name of the magazine and what it’s about.

Again the main audience should still be college students and people thinking about going to college but by using a woman on the cover the audience may be the same as the first magazine cover. She is very appealing to male readers and this could attract them to read the magazine as well.

The headlines on the cover are all bold and so this makes the words stick out, which makes the reader see the headlines clearly and make them visible. The word GREEK is bold, in capitals and is red as well which shows us that other countries are important and might show that students in college will get to travel which could entice people to go to this college.

This contents page is more boring than the next one as the colours used are dull and plain. This is affective as the purpose of this page is for a college magazine yet this may not attract all readers. The main image however has a positive effect on the reader as this shows the fun, almost rock band like, side to college life and the people who choose to go to college.

The layout of the contents page is simple but unconventional which shows the creativity of the person who created the magazine. On usual magazines the page references would usually be on the right hand side.

The use of the lack of colour also has its purpose. It seems to be that the intended target of the page is to inform its readers of important factual information therefore it is not necessary to use colourful or fantastic fonts to keep its audience intrigued. This shows us the type of reader this will attract; intellectual students that want to get straight to the facts.
