| magazine cover 1 |
The front cover of the magazine has a large, red masthead that contradicts with the bright, calm background behind it. The masthead is very simple which helps the reader interact and understand what the magazine is about without even opening it. As the image on the front cover hides some of the masthead this might have been a problem but the masthead is so simple that even covering it partially does not affect the impact the title has as the reader can still read and understand it.
The main audience should be college students or people thinking about going to college so that they can see what they should expect. By using the young woman on the cover the creator has seen that the age range for the magazine is between 16 and around 20 years of age.
A major concern for the creator of the magazine would have been how to make it eye catching enough to entice all readers into reading the magazine so on the cover there is a very beautiful woman standing in plain view (long shot) to attract the male viewers and as she is wearing shorts and a sporty top, this may attract the sports fanatics too. The t-shirt is a red colour and this is important as it catches the attention of many people.
The reason for this is that the colour red is the first colour that the eye and brain makes sense of, so this is why the colour red is more visible than other colours. The masthead and the main image are red so the creator has done this so that they both are apparent to the audience.
The background is out of focus and so this also adds to the affect that the protagonist is what is meant to be seen first and foremost. The background is of trees and nature which make the sports theme more enhanced. This also draws in other readers E.G. nature lovers.
